JulieJulie London (nee Peck) was an American actress and singer who toured for more than 40 years. London was a torch performer famous for her smooth, soothing vocals and her languid contralto voice and recorded more than 30 albums of standards and jazz between 1955-1969. The song she sang on "Cry Me a River" the song she introduced on her debut album was admitted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated in 1974 to the Golden Globe Award as a actress for her portrayal in Emergency! of Dixie McCall. Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she began her acting career. London's 35-year acting career began in film in 1944, which included roles for female leads in a variety of westerns, co-starring with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958) as well as with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and with Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). In the mid-50s, she signed a recording deal with Liberty Records. This was the beginning of her professional music career. The album she recorded her final studio album released in the year 1969. Her success continued in the role of the female main character in the role of Dixie McCall on the television show Emergency! (1972-1979) in which she was a co-star with Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband was the producer of the show.
