Lynda Carter

Carter was born in Phoenix as the daughter Juanita (nee Cordova), and Colby Carter. Her mother, who hails from Mexico is Mexican, Spanish and French. She is the sibling of Vincent, a brother, and Pamela, a sister. Carter was a public TV star when she made her debut on Lew King's Talent Show at age 5. Carter joined a group called Just Us in high school. The group played marimba, conga drum, an acoustic guitar, and a stand-up bass which was played by a different girl from the group. Lynda began to sing at a local pizza joint when she was just 15. 8] At the age of 16 years old, she joined her cousins in another group known as The Relatives. The drummer in the band was Gary Burghoff, an actor. The group first started in the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas. Carter had to enter the kitchen due to being younger than 21. After being voted "Most Talented" at the age of 18, she left to pursue a career in music. Carter auditioned in 1970 and was on tour with The Garfin Gathering's bandleader Howard (Speedy), Garfin. Their first show together was at the Holiday Inn Chinatown, a San Francisco hotel so new that there was no sidewalk access. The band played mostly for the hotel staff and hotel guests who left their cars in the underground garage. The Garfin Gathering played shows in many Nevada casinos, such as those between Lake Tahoe, Carson City and Reno. Carter left the Garfin Gathering to pursue acting in 1972, and later returned to Arizona.
